I Have No Work To Do

Ladies and gentlemen, I am happy to report to you that I am currently enjoying my very first pumpkin spice latte of the season. It's just the right temperature to soothe the sore throat that I contracted over the last few days. I had to ask them to make it again because the snarky pants barista used 2% instead of skim and then rolled her eyes when I requested she remake it. Hey, I can't get in a good workout with a sore throat and those extra calories count! And if I had to re-make drinks for people on the grounds of, "Something's just not right," then she can re-make mine for very obviously screwing up my order.

I think it's weird that things that will seem so incredibly average to my children are things that were novel to me at one time. My kids will not remember the first time they used the internet or drank starbucks. They will not remember when Walmart first came to town. Whereas me, I remember that I first used the internet in 7th grade in the library, I first had Starbucks on an FBLA trip and Walmart made its grand appearance in Wytheville during my Sophomore year of high school. The band played, the cheerleaders cheered and the bakery gave out free Cookie Club cards. I still have that card somewhere.

On the other hand, things that seemed so normal to me like hay rides and spending hours-upon-hours playing in the woods will be huge treats for them.

Now I just need to figure out if it's because my kids won't grow up in a tiny town or if it's because things have changed so much since I was a kid. Now that I think about it, Wytheville has a Starbucks now and, as I've said, there's a Walmart, so I guess I have my answer.

Wedding slump

So here we are, September 13, 2010, and the big day is just 19 days away. I should look like this, right? Freaking out over all I still have to do.
But instead I'm as cool as one of these.

Weird, huh?
